Type 1 motor with the elevan blade fan conversion, dual 40IDF
carbs on a mild 1835cc motor, and custom built polished stainless steal
muffler mounted to an 1-5/8" merged header. Dash has been modified and
now holds speedo, tach, oil temp.& fuel guage, all from autometer (silver
ultra lite series). The dash also holds a Kenwood CD reciever (painted
to match the dash) which motorizes back into the dash when the key is off.
This little trick was done with about 20 hours on the CNC end mill, and
lathe. The rest of the vehicle is pretty much stock paint is dark blue
with a stayfast tan canvas top, and tan leather interior. oh yes the front
seats have been changed to '90 honda CRX seats, with a custom built rear
seat to match the front buckets.

My car was imported into the UK in 1994, I bought it from the previous
owner last year. It was originally from Oregon and laterally California
(as far as I can tell!). It's Bahia Red with a black roof and I am
in the middle of restoring the paintwork back to it's original Bahia Red
all over (I'll kind of miss the black roof all the same). the interior
needs attention too, but the car is solid and drives great. It's
one of only about 20 cars here in Scotland. It's costing me a fortune
at the moment but it's definatley worth it.

Everything *appears* mostly original (matching VINs), except mirrors.
The car has never been in an accident (the nose is a beauty and it passed
the magnet test all over the body). It was repainted once (red) over
the original (green) paint, and it has a new top. All previous three
owners seem to have taken very good care of it. The engine is stock,
and runs great. The suspension could use to be tightened-up, and
I think the clutch may go soon. I don't know much about ghias yet, so I
don't know all the specs.

The car is a work in progress. I didn't do anything with it for the
first 3 years I had it because of time and money constraints. I've just
recently began dismantling it to prepare for new pans and paint. I bought
it for $500 and the only thing wrong with it was a dead engine, a rusted
decklid, and a 2 inch rust-through on the passenger-side rocker panel.
The car has not been in any accidents! There's no bondo anywhere nor any
obvious body repairs. Just for the relatively rust-free body the car was
worth the $500 I paid for it.

The car was a Texas salvaged car that had @100000 miles on it at the
time, the car was sold to a couple in Crescent Iowa, the car was stored
in a barn for 10 years and only had 4000 miles put on it by the previous
owners, the paint (original KG Yellow) and body is vary straight and no
rust!
I have updated suspension with Empi 8 spokes, KYG gas shocks, and front
& rear sway bars.
Interior I have installed a Momo string wheel and Gene Burg short
shifter AutoTech 3 ¾” Tachometer mounted under the dash
on the left.
Exterior modifications, European taillight lenses (Amber turn signals).
And Talbolt Sports Mirrors, I also removed nerf gards from bumpers.
At this time the motor is a stock 1600 DP with dual 34 Weber ICT carburetors,
dual quiet pack muffler.

I probably paid more than I should have, but it was my birthday
and I had just quit smoking... I was actually looking for a New Beetle
(it was, after all, my birthday). I had been anguishing for months over
whether to buy a KG (my dream car) or a New Beetle, a close second and
more practical with 2 kids. My wife saw a ghia sitting on a Mazda
lot. The more I saw, the more I had to have it.
It's Olympic Blue, original paint (as far as I can tell) from
about the windshield back (there was some sort of mishap at one time on
the front end that was professionally repaired, but you can see the difference
if you look really, really close). 83k original miles from one owner.
All the documents were included. I kept looking for reasons not to
buy it. It probably doesn't run (purred like a kitten). Oh,
it's got seat covers, the upholstery is shot (seats are perfect).
And so it went. The only thing really shot was the brakes...
but that was easy enough. It's been three years and I drive it every
day.

I bought the car for my wife from a friend who needed the money
fast to buy a 64 notch. The price was $2,500.however ,if I bought the car
I would have to purchase some other parts he was planning to but on it.The
parts are the following : cb drop spindles, front rotors drilled for porsche
wheels w/studs ,new pads and calipers.The rear end included brake drums,
drill for porsche wheels w/studs,pads ,Gene Berg shifter & traction
bar and a new racing tranny, all for $500.00.
Here's the catch, he tore down the engine because of a loud knock
he assumed it was the crank,turned out to be a hydraulic lifter that
needed to idle longer till it pumped up.
I took the engine to a friend who has a vw repair shop ,he said after
spilting the case everything looks good. I'm having the long
block rebuilt now.
The engine is a 1914 cc brazilian case,has gene berg cyclinders
horned ,balanced , top seal rings counter balanced crank, type
4 hydr lifter( bad news) I don't know what size cam,mofoco 42 heads
.dual weber 44 carbs.header with dual mufflers.
The car has polished porsche 928 16" wheels p7000 Pirelli tires desent
tread. Electric leather seat from 928 and electric door locks and alarm
system.
The interior is custom (#@%^)brown no rear seat just speaker screen
where once housed hugh speakers now empty .I first thought the car
was filled with rats nests, turn out to be sound deading ,Every nook and
crany filled with bags of spray insulation .My wife hates the interior
she want it returned back to the original interior. I'm going to paint
the seats & door panels black and replace the carpet to black
, maybe she'll change her mind.
The neighbors like the tangerine color , alittle rust under the rockers
and bubbles at the tops of both doors.
looks new from 20 ft or 20mph which ever comes first.
Floor pans look solid hopefully there's not any hidden rust (you
know what I'm taking about)under coating every where, could be sound deading
???????.
All in all I'm not sure want I've got, maybe trash or treasure.
Now that I have one ,I think I;ve been bitten by the bug or ghia as
they say.

This 1974 Karmann Ghia is ready and waiting for some TLC! This vehicle
has virtually no rust, and the floor pans are near perfect! It has
a brand new 17.76 engine including a new fuel tank and fuel pump. It can
really get up and go. So you can drive it while restoring it! The paint
and interior are original, except for the Am/Fm cassette, which doesn't
work.
The body is solid but needs some cosmetic work inside and out. The bumpers
have a few dents. There is very little dry rot around the windows, and
the glass in the windows is clear.

off restoration done. No cost spared on restoration. All new seals, dash
parts, headliner, and rechromed parts, along with new seat covers and carpet.

due it justice).
Very strong engine (the former owner bored out the engine).
Lousy wiring. I replaced the clock, and started up the car and smoke
came out of the dashboard. That's what I'm working on now.

Here is the most rust free ghia I’ve seen in VERY long
time. One little old lady owner and it’s been stored under cover for almost
10 years. As far as I know it
was never wrecked, rotted or had any major body damage.
It’s a time warp car. Runs and drives very well. Bad things? Needs a muffler
and the top of the
dash is cracked and has been repaired. The rear deck lid
has some minor surface rust where the paint was knocked off. There are
a few detail items like bit of
rubber that need attention and like that. Some of those
bits of rubber are the tires.

(46 years experience) - who documented the following: Compression 1-135
2-140 3-130 4-140. Install electronic ignition system. Tune-up with
valve adjustments. New Master Cylinder. New brake hoses to front brakes.
Front disc brake pads & rear brake linings in good condition. Steering
joints in good condition. Ball joints showing a small amount of wear. Floor

I just finished restoring 1 month ago.New economy paint job with 4yr
warranty on it. all new seals everywhere. No rust. All chrome and
alluminum trim is there. New wiring harness installed. Complete interior
restoration as well to give earlier Ghia look. evrything replaced...carpet,
headliner, upholstery, dashpad, kick pad, dash face. Engine was rebuilt
10 to 20 thousand miles back. The last owner told me this. I've never had
one single problem with the engine or starting it up. No oil leak whatsoever.
I think I did a great job if you ask me. Get comments Every time I take
it out. I have the A/c unit i chose not to install it but it will go with
the car along with some xtras that I got when I bought it.

Description = This car is black with black interior. Had it repainted summer
'99. It's immaculate inside and out. Mechanically it's totally stock except
for a header exhaust. One weird detail is its' frenched electric antenna. Car
is lowered, but not slammed on the ground, with Porsche 2 litre wheels and aluminum
bumpers which no one can identify (one guy said he thought they came off an
Opel). It has won many awards at VW and open car shows, but is also a great
driver- got to drive it from Houston, TX to western Colorado when I moved recently.
